Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Johnson Controls, which makes car parts, is to close with the loss of around 150 jobs and is transferring the business from Telford to its Leamington Spa factory. The company confirmed that the plant in Halesfield was to close because of 'under capacity'. Staff were told about the job losses at the American-owned company in Mid-October 2005, with unions expecting the plant to close just after Christmas. Formal talks between the unions and management will start on redundancies. The union hopes some workers will be able to transfer to other sites.
