Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Automotive supplier Brose will cut 109 jobs by december 2005 at its factory in Hallstadt near Bamberg (Bavaria). Brose and trade union IG Metall had negotiated about a longer working week and other cost-cutting measures. After the negotiations broke down in July 2005, Brose first announced the loss of 51 jobs. Early October the company added another 58 positions. The management says the trade union was blocking necessary reform, thereby endangering jobs. The trade union says the company was demanding ever more concessions, while profits were healthy.
