Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company DH Sport has announced it will open another factory in November 2005 (the second production unit in Romania) close to Deva (Vest region, Hunedoara county), set to manufacture 500,000 bicycles per year. The investment in the new production unit is in excess of €5 million, compared to the mere €1 million invested in the first factory. ‘Once the project in Deva is finalized, production capacity will increase by around 150%. The number of employees is also expected to double, to about 350 people’, declared the executive manager of DH Sport.
The company began manufacturing in 1999 and currently produces around 40 types of bicycles, 10 types of baby carriages and 5 models of sports roller skates. About 25% of the company output goes for export. Whereas in 2004 the turnover doubled, totalling €4.4 million, for 2005 the company forecasts an increase of only 50%, as a result of unfavourable weather conditions in Romania in 2005.
