Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Belgian passenger and baggage handling services company Aviapartner will cut some 150 jobs at the international Schiphol airport near Amsterdam, Dutch trade union De Unie said on 5 September 2005. Aviapartner is currently facing difficulties, after its important partner British Airways cancelled its contract with the company.
Aviapartner has had talks with De Unie earlier on 5 September 2005, after which a reorganisation was announced. Forced redundancies are not to be ruled out as part of the reorganisation at Schiphol, the trade union said. Aviapartner, which is owned by UK investment company 3i, currently employs 700 at Schiphol. The company is active at Schiphol with its subsidiary Smart Handling.
Aviapartner was established in 1949. The company provides ramp operations at 25 airports in Western Europe to more than 400 air carriers worldwide.
