Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
American IBM will open a new Software Laboratory in Kraków. IBM's Software Laboratory will be the first facility of that kind in Central Eastern Europe. The new software lab will have the mission to develop innovative software products to benefit IBM's customers worldwide. IBM projects that the new facility will result in creation of 200 jobs in the first 2 years of operation. The company is presently talking to software engineers and testers, as well as project managers and information developers to staff the new facility. They will form part of a global team focused on the development of IBM's Tivoli software which helps organizations manage and control their IT resources. By establishing the necessary skill base locally, an additional unit will offer service offerings to address the needs of local businesses in Poland. The first project which will be in the area of systems management will be fully operational by early October 2005. Within this long term government programme, the Krakow's investment received an 800,000 PLN endorsement from the Poland's budget. The goal of the programme is to endorse the regional development and increase the employment amongst those with higher education. The realization of this project will bring more than 16 million PLN revenue to the Polish and local authorities budgets.
