European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Consumer electronics discounter Makromarkt is planning to cut 152 jobs in Berlin. Makromarkt has already cut the number of jobs in Germany from 2,300 in 2003 to 1,500 in 2005. It is losing money in a 'discount war' with competitor Mediamarkt-Saturn which has had the upper hand. A verd.i trade union official said that Makromarkt would dismiss almost the entire administration unit in Berlin. However, Makromarkt has not announced where exactly they would cut jobs.
