Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch regional water company Wetterskip Fryslan, in Leeuwarden, northern Netherlands, will cut 60 jobs, (10% of its workforce), by 1 January 2006. The job cuts will affect mainly the management staff and forced lay-offs are not expected. The workforce reduction will be part of the company's cost-saving plan for the next four years, which is expected to save €8 million. 'We plan to centralise the organisation of the company as much as possible', the director Peter Polhuis said.
