Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Nissan is specialised in the production of motor vehicles and has two production centres in Cataluña (Zona Franca and Montcada), one in Avila and another one in Cuatro Vientos (Madrid). The company has agreed with the labour representatives on the closure of the Cuatro Vientos centre which employs 440 workers. Nissan's management has agreed on the relocation of part of the workforce to the centres in Catalonia. Workers willing to be relocated will be granted with an extra allowance and the employees willing to leave the company will received an extra wage amounting to 55 days per year worked. Employees over 52 years old will benefit from early retirement measures and earn 90% of their net salary. The closure of the centre is to take place by 2006.
