Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In the framework of a reorganisation process, which should include the delocalisation of some production, Electrolux Zanussi (the Italian subsidiary of the Swedish MNC) announced a reduction of some 400 jobs. The unions staged a group strike of 8 hours to oppose the restructuring process and back their demands in connection with the renewal of the company supplementary agreement. After some rumors that the company may exclude Italy from job cuts, some 200 redundancies have been confirmed for the plant located in Scandicci (FI), while the unions are still pressing for a different solution.
