Description
Alcatel Romania has invested €1 million in setting up a research and development centre in railway transport control systems in Bucharest (Bucharest region). By this, the research and development related to this segment of activity, so far carried out by the German branch of Alcatel, has been relocated to Bucharest. In the phase, the centre will employ 50 software engineers, with an additional 150 by the end of 2006. Alcatel Romania already has 1,000 employees, and has so far carried out a wide range of activities such as research and development, manufacturing, installation and commissioning in telecommunications, closing the year 2004 with a turnover of €140 million. Based on a partnership with the Romanian National Railway Company (Compania Naţională de Căi Ferate din România, CNCFR), Alcatel Romania will provide electronic centralization of the railway structure in southern Romania. The company has already implemented safety-device systems for railway signalling in four railway stations in Romania while another 11 railway stations will be modernized. The French Group Alcatel is present across 130 countries and has reported sales totalling €12.4 million in 2004.
