Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
By 2007, the Ministry of National Defence (Ministerul Apararii Nationale, MAPN) in Romania will have cut around 10,000 jobs. The Ministry of National Defence currently employs around 100,000 people. According to the conditions imposed for Romania’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the total Romanian army personnel must be brought down to 90,000 people i.e. 75,500 military and 15,000 civilian staff by 2007.
In a press conference held on 30 May 2005, the Ministry of National Defence mentioned that it would not request any amendments to the legislation on redundancies in the army, and redundancy pay and benefits will remain unchanged.
The legislation in force provides for redundancy pay depending on length of service. In the case of redundancy, officers and non-commissioned officers are entitled to 12 to 20 gross monthly pay, contract-based military personnel to 6 to 12 monthly pay and civilian staff to 12 to 20 national average net wages.
