Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On Friday 27 May 2005, JST Europe, a connectors manufacturer for telecom, white goods and automotive markets, announced its closure. The daughter company of Japanese JST-Manufacturing, based in Kampenhout has a workforce of 100. In 2004, following the loss of a major customer, JST Europe had already faced a restructuring in which 38 employees were dismissed. Following the announcement, employees went on strike and blocked the access to the plant. Union representatives expect some negotiations with the Japanese management in order to maintain activity and save wages.
