Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Almost 120 jobs are being cut at Imerys, a china clay company based in Cornwall. It is making 117 staff redundant which is about 6% of the total workforce employed in the county. The company said over half of the posts being cut were due to improved productivity and technical innovation. It blamed the remaining cuts on ‘difficult global trading conditions' and ‘unusually steep increases in prices of energy, international freight and chemicals'.
