Description

The Port of Felixstowe (PFL) the largest container port in the UK and one of the largest in Europe is expanding its employment. An extra 500 workers will be needed at the port in Suffolk this year. Part of the reason is the need to replace workers as they reach retirement age but the port is struggling to recruit enough apprentice engineers as more young people stay in higher education.

The other reason is capacity expansion both in Felixstowe and on the other side of the water at Bathside Bay in Harwich.

‘Taking account of leavers and retirees, this will mean that around 500 new members of staff will be recruited this year, pushing the workforce at the Port of Felixstowe to above 3,000', stated Richard Pearson, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports.
