Description
Decommissioning of the Sellafield nuclear plant has begun. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) officially assumed responsibility for the clean-up of the nuclear reprocessing complex on 1 April 2005. According to the NDA, the process could take up to 100 years, but heavy job losses are expected within 10 years. The current figure of 12,000 employees could be reduced to 4,000 by 2011, said the Amicus union.
