Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Pasarela Textil is specialised in the manufacture of textiles and is based in Reus (Tarragona, Catalonien, Spain). After registering losses of € 155,000 in 2003, the management has decided the closure of the Reus plant creating 133 redundancies. The subsequent job reduction plan has been presented to the regional authorities. The management has decided to import textiles from China and continue only with the activity of the plant of Estampados del Tordera in Girona ( Catalonien, Spain). The Pasarela Textil company is owned by the Dutch company Eyelatser by 48.8 % and the Spanish Grupaser Textil by 46.1%. No reaction has been appointed yet by either labour representatives or regional authorities.
