Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The take-over of glass manufacturer Nachtmann by its main competitor Riedel is going to bring a significant reduction of its workforce. Georg Riedel, head of the merged corporate group, emphasised that deep cuts in expenditure were required to ensure the survival of Nachtmann, which has a long tradition in Bavaria. Riedel plans to cut one quarter of the current 1.600 jobs. Most jobs will be cut in administration, but other divisions too, as long as they are not part of the core business, will see significant outsourcing to service providers. However, very few redundancies are expected in the glass production division.
