Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The AirTanker consortium, has clinched a £13 billion contract to provide air-to-air refuelling services for the RAF yesterday. This deal will secure at least 7,500 jobs in the British aerospace industry. The private sector consortium said that the 27-year contract would "sustain" 3,000 jobs at the five companies that make up the AirTanker group, secure a further 4,000 jobs at suppliers and create 600 jobs.
The consortium, which is led by the European defence giant EADS and includes the British firms Rolls-Royce and Cobham, was finally named preferred bidder for the £13 billion contract by Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, after a year of negotiations.
