Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German Shipyard Group, newly founded under the consortium ThyssenKrupp has decided to cut every eighth job in its company. From about 6,500 jobs in Germany, approximately 800 would be dismissed. Since 1 January 2005, the firms Thyssen-Shipyard Blohm & Voss and Nordseewerke as well as the Howaldswerke Deutsche-Werft (HDW) have been brought together under the umbrella of ThyssenKrupp. Total profit made by the Shipyard Group is €2.2 billion. The group has 9,300 employees worldwide.
