Deutsche Post is reported to be planning around 1,000 job cuts in connection with the merger between its express and parcel delivery services. The transaction involves the creation of a new division through the merger of DHL Worldwide Express with Deutsche Post Express.
Most redundant posts are those of courier service drivers. While settlement agreements have been signed for around half of the employees affected, transfers within the group are now sought for the remaining employees. A further option would be the transfer of drivers to subcontractors. However, it is reported by a company source, that, if efforts to find alternative employment fail, forced redundancies are not ruled out.
