Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alken-Maes, the second largest Belgian brewery, announced on 20 January 2005 it would cut 112 jobs out of 664. General services should be hit the most by the restructuring, and on a lower scale a few workers should also lose their job (22 people). On top of this announcement, management is to develop its sales strategy by making it more aggressive. A focus on the profitability of the quality services as well as a reorganisation of the logistics department will be considered. Negotiations with unions are to take place before the implementation of the restructuring.
