Description
Greencore has announced a decision to close its Carlow sugar factory and consolidate all its manufacturing facilities at its plant in Mallow, Co. Cork, with the loss of 189 full-time posts and 137 additional seasonal jobs. Total employment in Irish Sugar will be cut from 614 to 288 jobs.
The company said the Carlow plant would be closed in March following a strategic review of Irish Sugar in advance of proposed reforms of the EU sugar market and increased competition.
