Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
BE Semiconductor Industries N.V., manufacturer of assembly equipment for the semiconductor industry, announced a restructuring of its operations. The measures will focus principally on a workforce reduction at the Dutch packaging and tooling manufacturing operations of Duiven and Brunssum. 81 employees, approximately 10% of total headcount worldwide will lose their job as part of a plan to address the current downturn in the semiconductor industry. In addition, Besi will phase out the use of approximately 50 temporary workers at the Duiven facility. A part of the restructuring will be the closing of Besi's tooling facility in Brunssum, in the first half of 2005. The personnel terminations are expected to occur in the first quarter of 2005.
