Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German mobile telecommunications company Debitel AG considers cutting between 110 and 150 jobs, it was reported on 3 December 2004. Most of the jobs to be slashed will be in the head office in Stuttgart. Reportedly, the company does not rule out the possibility for forced lay-offs.
Debitel informed its employees about the planned job cuts at a meeting on 2 December 2004. The company was said to have already laid-off 18 employees from the IT department. According to the reports, all dismissals are to be announced no later than the week starting 6 December 2004. It has not become clear yet which of other departments will be affected by the job cuts.
