Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In the frame of the company strategy of reducing production of pharmaceutical chemicals for third parties, Schering AG plans to cut its contract manufacturing activities at its Bergkamen site with the loss of about 700 jobs. 250 jobs will also be shed at the headquarters in Berlin. About 300 jobs will be cut at sites outside of Germany. In June 2004, Schering announced a headcount reduction of approximately 2,000 jobs globally. By 30 September 2004, more than 600 jobs were cut and about 1,800 of the 2,000 jobs will be cut by the end of 2005. These measures are part of Schering's FOCUS initiative, a comprehensive review of strategic, operational and organizational aspects.
