Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Some 600 jobs at Dutch railway maintenance services company Nedtrain (subsidiary of the Netherlands Spoorwegen NS), are threatened to be cut. The company is facing financial difficulties due to the strong competition and decreased orders. The jobs are threatened to be cut in the next four years. Nedtrain expect to implement the job cuts via natural attrition and a vacancy stop. Mainly office workers, are threatened to loose their jobs. A spokesman of NS said there was no concrete decision about a personnel reduction.
