Description
IR Security and Safety is to shed 100 jobs and move production overseas. The company is a major provider of door furniture, locks, electronic access control and door controls and employs 232 people at the Walsall site. The security firm confirmed it is in consultation with employees, trade unions and staff about restructuring. The firm, part of US-based Ingersoll-Rand, blames the cuts on "price pressure" caused by trying to compete with increasingly cheap imports. The losses will not affect the firm's three other UK sites in Leamington Spa, Gateshead and Sittingbourne in Kent.
