Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Murata Manufacturing in Estover near Plymouth is closing with the loss of 120 jobs. The electronics firm says an increasing number of customers have switched to suppliers nearer their new bases in the Far East. Production at the plant which makes ceramic chip capacitors will be run down before the site closes completely in November 2004.
Workers are being offered redundancy payments and help to find alternative employment.
