Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
According to a regional newspaper, 118 workers employed at Dreefs, a medium-sized company producing switches for electrical machinery and apparatus, stand to lose their jobs due to its complete closure by its Italian owner, the Vemer-Siber-Group. The company's works council aims to expand the existing social plan in order to mitigate the consequences for the workforce. The blue-collar Metalworking and Textiles Union (GMT) urges the regional authorities to set up a special fund to the benefit of the employees concerned. The closure will be completed by the end of August 2005.
