Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Flextronics Manufacturing France, subsidiary of the Singaporean Flextronics, has decided to shed 150 jobs out of 620 at its production site of Laval (Mayenne) before the end of 2004. This reflects the lowering demand in mobile telephony parts. Flextronics bought the production site of Laval from Alcatel in 2001. Now Alcatel is its sole customer. The company wants to keep a high production level; therefore the cuts will mostly affect management, engineers and technicians.
