Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Le Monde, the French newspaper, has announced on 21 September 2004 its intention to shed 90 people: 27 employees, 28 middle-management and 35 journalists. The newspaper has indeed registered a loss of € 9.2 million last year and hopes to return to profitability with this move. Unions have been shocked by the speed of the decision making and have opposed the application of the restructuring programme before the end of October.
