Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hundreds of employees at car maker NedCar in Born, southern Netherlands are threatened with layoff, due to the lower number of orders, a spokeswoman of NedCar said on September 17, 2004. According to the company's spokeswoman, NedCar considers to reduce the company's schedule to two shifts from the current three-shift schedule, due to the decreasing orders. NedCar's part-time workers will be most affected by the programme, the spokesperson said. NedCar has informed the Dutch trade unions about its reorganisation plans. NedCar employs some 4,800.
