Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Laurus, the second wholesale trade group in the Netherlands after Ahold, announced in May 2004 a cost-saving programme including the redundancy of 1,300 people in its Edah (750 job cuts), Super De Boer (300) and Konmar (240) stores. This is a necessary reaction to the ‘war of prices' in the great distribution market, as Laurus's sales have decreased by 10.5% during the last year. The group has already sold its Belgian stores to Carrefour and Colruyt, and had sold its Spanish stores in 2002.
