Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The considerable debts of the Porcelain Factory Książ in Wałbrzych (it owes money to some 200 different creditors) has led it to pursue a restructuring programme whose objectives include the reduction of production costs. Collective redundancies have been announced; they will affect 270 people, one fourth of the entire workforce. Should the restructuring programme fail, the entire factory will be faced with the prospect of bankruptcy; if this worst case scenario comes to pass, 1,080 people will be left without jobs.
