Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Groupe Pindière SA, second French shoe manufacturer, is based in Maine-et-Loire and consists of 4 companies: Pindière SAS with 430 employees, Samson with 198, Inova with 28 and Barbault with 77. Two of the companies, i.e. Pindière SA and Barbault, have filed for bankruptcy, threatening some 500 jobs. On 28 April 2004, the tribunal of Angers has given six months for the companies to find a takeover bid. On 4 October 2004, one takeover bid was considered for Pindière SAS, from Jean-Louis Chupin. The manager proposes to save 105 jobs out of the 430 employed on the site of Villedieu-la-Boulère. 75% of the production would be relocated in the middle-east, India and the far-east.
