The Australian packaging company Amcor will close its unit, Amcor Flexibles Envi, in Assen, northern Netherlands, the chairman of Dutch trade union CNV Bedrijvenbondon, Heino Smedes, announced on 25 May 2004. 165 jobs will be cut with the closure. Amcor Flexibles Envi is expected to be closed at the end of 2004. A 2 million euro cost-saving programme and a rescue plan, set up by the works council of Amcor Flexibles Envi, were not approved by the parent company. Amcor has insufficient confidence in the continuation of the operations of its Dutch unit.
