Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swiss agrochemicals group Syngenta plans to close down its production unit Syngenta Manufacturing BV in Roosendaal, southwestern Netherlands, in 2005. This closure will result in 116 job cuts. Syngenta Manufacturing BV's managing director, John Basters, has informed the company's workers' council and the personnel on the parent company's plans on 27 May 2004. According to Basters, the Roosendaal facility has been facing an overcapacity for several years now and the problem will not be solved in the medium-long term.
