Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The British Imperial Tobacco Group decided to close the production unit of its subsidiary — the Slovak International Tabak, in Spišská Belá. The last 300 employees left the unit on 27 April 2004. The closure, which is part of the Imperial Tobacco Group's European restructuring programme, will increase the 27% unemployment rate in the region. Some German, Italian and South Korean companies already showed their interest to buy the closed production unit. Their intention would be to run a business in the light industry field.
