Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The multinational company Kodak, specialised in the manufacture of photographic products, has announced the closure of its laboratory in Vienna by the end of July 2004. Thus, all 175 workers employed at this site stand to lose their jobs. Due to the boom of digital photography which has arisen in recent years, the traditional development of pictures based on analogous technique does not pay any more. The 175 employees concerned will be covered by a social plan which is currently being drawn up.
