Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) foresees the suppression of 4,500 jobs worldwide, i.e. 10% of its workforce. 1,000 redundancies would take place in Japan, while the rest would hit Europe, the United States and Australia. After the move, MMC would count 40,000 employees, which is 45% of what it counted in 2000. On 21 May 2004, company management announced the job cuts would amount to 7,000 (7,600 according to some sources) worldwide, before end 2007.
