Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sony's management announced they will cut 110 jobs in Belgium, out of a workforce of 840. The affected staff are engineers working for Sony Europe in Zaventem, where 450 staff are located. The job cuts will take place in the Visual Products and NetServices divisions. The first will be transferred in Basingstoke (UK), the latter will be stopped. This move is part of the European restructuring of Sony. On 22 June 2004, unions sources declared they did not approve the social plan put forward by management. On 23 July 2004, after negotiations with unions, the number of redundancies has been brought down to 82.
