Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tenaris Dalmine, which manufactures special steel products, has announced 136 redundancies, almost all of them (125) affecting white-collar employees, who are now some 800 out of a total employment of around 2,300 people. The reduction is part of a reorganisation programme of administrative services for the whole Rocca group, which will introduce new information services and central management to avoid duplications. Trade unions have requested that all available measures to reduce the social impact of restructuring on workers are used, including the wages guarantee fund, early retirement, internal redeployment and the transformation of existing full-time contracts into part-time.
