Description

Salcomp has decided to shut down its charger plant in Kemijärvi. The manufacturer of power supplies for personal handheld devices will transfer the production to its plant in Shenzhen,China. This decision is based on the favourable cost structure in China as well as strong market growth in Asia. As the result of cooperation negotiations in between the managemant and the personnel, the employment of 261 employees will terminate, with most employment periods ending by end of April 2004. The layoffs concern 186 production employees and 75 office employees. After these personnel reductions, only 61 employees altogether will be employed at Salcomp Finland — 28 persons in Kemijärvi and 33 in Salo.
