Kromberg and Schubert is based in Waterford, south east Ireland. It supplies harnesses and cables to the major auto manufactures in Europe. The redundancies will mean that the workforce will be cut in half. At its peak in the 1970s, the company employed in excess of 1,000 people. However, since the mid-1990s the workforce has been hit by a succession of job cuts, with production being outsourced to lower labour cost countries, particularly in eastern Europe.
