Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Shorts, the aerospace company owned by Bombardier, has announced the possible loss of 1,180 jobs on top of the 1,300 it has already lost since September 11 (see previous factsheets).
On 14 August 2003, 600 had already left the company, and a further 300 redundancies were planned. On 27 November 2003, the company employed 5,600 employees (i.e. the 300 redundancies had not yet occurred), but unions still feared for additional job cuts.
