Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
ABN Amro employs 33,000 people in the Netherlands, 2,500 in the ICT department which is to be restructured. This plan is a consequence of the worldwide restructuring plan launched in 2001. There will be no direct dismissals, the 203 jobs from the ICT division will move inside the company.
December 2003. ABN Amro is studying the possibility of outsourcing some of its activities based in the Netherlands to countries with lower wages. Unions fear the loss of hundreds of jobs.
January 2004. Some 100 jobs will be axed in the internal control service which has to be centralised to be more efficient.
