Description
Scottish & Newcastle is shutting the Fountainbridge brewery in Edinburgh with a loss of 170 jobs. The reasons given are the plant's city-centre location, low capacity use and rising operating costs. This means it was 'no longer commercially viable' when demand for beer in the U.K. is stagnating, management declared. Affected employees will be offered retraining, relocation opportunities within the Group or redundancy compensation.
