Description

Due to the crisis in the tourism sector and particularly in the cruise liner market, the demand for new ships has been delayed. Meyer Werft is thereby affected and has to dismiss on average one third of its workforce. Some analysts fear that this could lead to a further job supression (800) in the region.

May 2003 a social plan has been negociated, and 593 jobs will be suppressed in three steps : in June, September and the beiginning of 2004. DeverTrans has been created to help some 484 persons to find a new job.
