Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Verrerie de Vianne, glass manufacturer specialised in glass for lamps, has filed for bankruptcy. The Tribunal of Commerce of Agen has rejected as not viable the two takeover proposals. It is the third bankruptcy of this company since 1985. In 1997, it was taken over by Covigest, but has since seen its turnover go from 21.6 to 10.9 million euros. The closure puts 200 workers out of job. In March 2004, 58 former employees have decided to take over the company's activities. This recovery plans to hire 63 employees within 5 months.
