Abbey, Britain's second biggest mortgage lender, announced it would shut its customer services centres in Warrington and Derby and transfer the jobs to Bangalore, India. The Abbey group is centring on its core-activity of retail banking. Unions protested and pointed out the inability of the Government to prevent these jobs from leaving the country. This announcement comes on the same day as that at Axa, outsourcing 230 jobs to India.
